Our distinguished guest speakers:
Mari Behr is a strategic storyteller who believes in the power of self-compassion to create real connection. Her motto is: “If you're not connected to yourself, you can’t truly connect to others.” Mari has also been involved in the Olympic movement for the past 13 years, having advised the Tokyo 2020, Beijing 2022, Paris 2024 and Milano Cortina 2026 Games on the implementation of engagement and social impact initiatives. She led a portfolio of initiatives for the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, including the youth engagement program. With 8 million young participants, it was touted as one of the greatest social legacies of the Games. As rewarding as this experience was, it led to severe burnout. It was during this challenging period that Mari discovered the transformative power of self-compassion.
Through her strategic storytelling practice, Mari helps clients create authentic and compelling narratives. She applies an embodied approach that includes self-compassion exercises and finding the common humanity elements to their stories.
Barbara Best is a community organizer, youth advocate, and system change leader who is passionate about building systems of care to empower youth and communities to thrive. Barbara spent 13 years at the Children’s Defense Fund, rising from outreach coordinator to Texas Executive Director, opened offices in Houston and the Rio Grande Valley region along the Mexican border, and mobilized regional coordinators in ten Texas cities to restore health coverage to 176,000 uninsured Texas children. As Executive Director of the Harvard Kennedy School Center for Public Leadership, Barbara led the rapid expansion of public service fellowships from 51 to 118 graduate fellows over a five-year period, with 36% U.S. students of color, 32% international students from 29 countries, and 53% women. Barbara holds a Master in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School and a bachelor’s degree from Duke University. Barbara is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education Leadership (Ed.L.D.) at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Through her leadership coaching practice, Barbara empowers mission driven organizations and cross sector leaders to catalyze transformational change while advancing equity and sustainability.
