As our mission states, ANHW aims to develop a vibrant intergenerational community of Harvard and Radcliffe alumnae/i designed to increase and strengthen Harvard women’s presence, voices, and leadership within Harvard and the larger society. Our approach is to provide opportunities for networking and a platform from which to address issues of particular concern to women in the Harvard community and the world beyond. With the international scope of our organization, 66 countries as of this writing, achieving this goal is a challenge.
Therefore, EXCITING NEWS!
We have been establishing Discussion/Social Groups (DSGs) which are designed to provide a personal connection among members and to build a stronger community of Harvard women. They are less formal than Chapters and therefore, easier to manage. In large metropolitan areas, they would be neighborhood groups which could easily join together to sponsor an event or become a Chapter, or independent groups in smaller cluster areas. We encourage you to join our Facebook group which gives members far and wide the ability to share concerns and expand the conversation. If you would like to help form a Chapter or DSG in your area, please contact us.
Our Corporate Board provides overall support—guides for setting up Chapters and DSGs to outline the procedures, and email and telephone communication during the process to answer all questions and solve any problems. We have recently introduced the position of Zone Chair, to work with the Chapters and DSGs in specific geographical regions and to serve as the liaisons for DSGs with the ANHW President and Vice President.
We also have a list of all activities our Chapters and DSGs held during 2019, as an inspiration for everyone.
Grant Funds
The Corporate Board is pleased to offer a new grant program for our many DSGs. We recommend that events be pay-as-you-go – these grants are intended to provide supplementary funding only if necessary. If your DSG would like to sponsor a program, using attendees’ contributions that are kept to affordable limits for them, but find you need additional funds, you can apply for a limited amount of funding from ANHW. If you are interested, please submit a one-page summary of the proposed event, name(s) of speaker and title, budget, date, location, and possible number of attendees. This can be sent to anhwcorpsecretary@gmail.com. We will make a decision and notify you within 1-2 weeks.
